What is Bass Canyon 2026?

Bass Canyon is a Pacific Northwest bass kingdom — a three-day camping festival held at the legendary Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. With the Columbia River carving a natural cliff-edged backdrop, Bass Canyon delivers some of the most visually stunning stage production in the US festival circuit, combined with the heaviest sound systems and the tightest bass-music curation outside of Lost Lands. Since 2018, Bass Canyon has become the premier West Coast bass festival and an annual pilgrimage for Headbangers.

Three stages anchor the festival: Main Stage (pyro-heavy headliner rotation), Sky Stage (underground bass), and The Nest (late-night heavy). The programming follows the same lines as Lost Lands. The Gorge's natural acoustics amplify low frequencies in ways that manufactured venues simply cannot replicate. First-timers routinely describe the mainstage sound quality as the best they've ever experienced.

Camping at the Gorge is iconic. The property includes multiple campground zones — Gorge Camping (standard), Premier (upgraded amenities), and VIP (flush toilets, showers, dedicated lounges). The Columbia River vista from the upper campground at sunrise is one of the most photographed moments in American festival culture. Bass Canyon crowd is tight-knit, intense, and deeply committed to bass music as a subculture. This is a Headbanger homecoming every August.

Travel & Planning Guide

Bass Canyon at the Gorge Amphitheatre is a destination festival — the venue sits in rural George, Washington, roughly 2.5 hours east of Seattle and 2 hours west of Spokane. Most Headbangers fly into Sea-Tac (SEA) and drive the scenic 2.5 hours east through Snoqualmie Pass. Spokane International (GEG) is a closer alternative. Rental cars are essential — there is no reliable shuttle service to the Gorge, and the area has no Uber/Lyft availability. Road-trip from Portland (3 hours), Vancouver BC (4.5 hours), or Seattle is the standard approach.

Camping is mandatory at Bass Canyon — every ticket includes or requires a camping pass. GA Camping is general, Premier offers closer gate access and upgraded amenities, VIP Camping includes flush toilets and showers, and Chief Headbanger packages add glamping setups. Book car camping or RV spots within the first hour of on-sale — those tiers sell out fastest. Pre-Canyon Thursday early entry is available with most camping tiers and highly recommended to beat the Friday morning rush.

Pro tip for first-timers: Eastern Washington August is desert-adjacent — 95°F dry heat days, 55°F clear nights, zero humidity. Dust is significant (bandanas, eye drops, masks help). Pack warm layers for late-night mainstage sets. The Gorge mainstage is an amphitheatre — you can bring low-back chairs into most sections, which veterans recommend for long headliner sets. Sunscreen at load-in; the UV is intense at this altitude.

What to Know Before You Go

🏞️
Catch Sunrise at the Gorge

The Columbia River vista from the upper campground at sunrise is iconic. Set an alarm for 5:30 AM one morning, grab coffee, and walk up to the amphitheatre rim. Best photo opportunity of your festival summer. No filters needed.

⛺
Camping is Non-Negotiable

There are no hotels within reasonable distance of the Gorge and no Uber/Lyft coverage. Camping is required. Book car-camping or RV spots within the first hour of on-sale — those sell out fastest. Premier and VIP Camping are worth the upgrade for flush toilets and showers.

🌵
Prepare for Desert Heat

Eastern Washington August is dry desert-adjacent heat — 95°F dry days, 55°F clear nights, zero humidity, intense UV. Hydrate aggressively, wear SPF 50, pack a bandana for dust, and bring warm layers for late-night sets. This is not Seattle weather.

🔊
Bass Canyon Sound = Loud

Bass Canyon sound systems rank among the loudest on the American festival circuit. The Gorge natural acoustics amplify bass frequencies dramatically. High-fidelity earplugs (Vibes, Loop, Eargasm) are mandatory.

🪑
Bring a Low Chair

The Gorge mainstage is an amphitheatre — low-back chairs are allowed in most sections. Veterans bring them for long headliner sets. Not required, but significantly improves the experience during 2-hour sets where you can't just stand.

🦖
Totem Culture Same as Lost Lands

Bass Canyon shares the dinosaur totem culture of Lost Lands. Build or bring one — they become landmarks for your crew and conversation starters with every Headbanger around you. Bonus points for LED-lit totems visible from mainstage.
