Datsik
The Kelowna-born producer who helped define heavy North American dubstep and built Firepower Records into a bass-music institution.
Who is Datsik?
The architect of heavy North American dubstep and founder of Firepower Records.
Datsik is the Canadian producer Troy Beetles, from Kelowna, British Columbia, who discovered dubstep after seeing Excision at Shambhala in 2008. Within months he was releasing on Excision’s Rottun Recordings, scoring Beatport number-ones with grinding, militaristic basslines.
In 2012 he founded Firepower Records in Los Angeles, which grew into one of bass music’s most respected independent labels, home to artists including Getter, Bear Grillz and Terravita. His debut album Vitamin D (2012) and the Sensei EP (2016) cemented his standing, and his Ninja Nation tours brought a custom stage rig across North America.
In 2018, following public misconduct allegations, Beetles cancelled his remaining dates, stepped down from Firepower Records and has been largely out of the public eye since. Explore more electronic music artists in the full DJ directory, or visit his official site.

Legacy & Influence
Datsik’s productions helped establish the template for heavy North American dubstep, and Firepower Records shaped a generation of bass-music artists.
Through releases on Rottun Recordings and his own Firepower Records, Datsik built a catalogue that defined the harder end of North American dubstep between 2009 and 2018. Collaborations with Excision, Flux Pavilion and Virtual Riot — alongside crossover moments like “Smoke Bomb” with Snoop Dogg — show the breadth of that output.
Firepower Records, which he founded in 2012, served as a launching pad for numerous bass-music artists and remains a reference point in the genre’s history. Datsik has been largely inactive since 2018.
