Who is Porter Robinson?

Self-taught since age 12, Porter Robinson redefined what electronic music could feel — and look — like.

Porter Robinson is the American DJ and producer from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who taught himself production at twelve and was releasing music commercially before he turned eighteen. His early singles climbed the Beatport charts and he signed to Skrillex’s OWSLA imprint, releasing the Spitfire EP in 2011 as one of the most promising voices in American dance music.

His debut album Worlds (2014) topped Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and defined his blend of synthpop and emotionally driven electronic production, drawing on anime, Vocaloid and indie influences. Tracks like “Language,” “Sad Machine” and “Goodbye to a World” paired euphoric sound design with real vulnerability, while his Virtual Self alias earned a Grammy nomination for “Ghost Voices.” The deeply personal Nurture (2021) topped the same chart.

Robinson released his third album Smile! 😀 in 2024 and toured it across more than seventy shows in 2024–2025 — his most extensive run yet. He also founds and headlines Second Sky, the California festival he launched in 2019. Explore more electronic music artists in the full DJ directory, or visit his official site.

Porter Robinson keeps pushing electronic music into deeply personal, sonically adventurous territory few producers dare to explore.
